We are a five partner, well organised inner city practice covering the Stoke Newington area. Stoke Newington, like most of London contains an incredible variety of ethnic groups and social class. Deprivation is high in this area but there are also more affluent pockets to provide an unrivalled diversity of patients with whom to learn the art of General Practice. The practice population of 9500 is a mixture of white, Turkish/ Kurdish, African, and Caribbean patients. Stoke Newington itself is an up and coming area with a variety of shops, restaurants and bars centred around the Church Street area.

Premises and Staff

We practice form a refurbished health centre. Registrars have their own room. There is a well equipped library with internet access. There is also a viewing room to watch consultations. We have three practice nurses, two health advocates, attached health visitors and district nurses. We have a large administration team to help us provide high quality care to our patients.

Special interests

While we are "Jacks" (and "Jills") of all trades we are masters of some. Our special interests include psychiatry, gynaecology, diabetes, asthma, dermatology, sports medicine and child health. We run clinics in diabetes, asthma, family planning, cardiovascular disease, antenatal, child health and menopause. We have a visiting physiotherapist, psychiatrist and counsellor.

Training

This is a longstanding training practice both for registrars and undergraduates. Two of the partners were trained here. We have one active trainer, two other partners are ex-trainers. We aim to prepare GP registrars with the knowledge and skills to deal with the diversity and variety of a career in general practice. This includes the medical, social, business, organisational and ethical aspects of practice.

We have regular clinical meetings within the practice and offer ongoing training to all staff. Training is carried out enthusiastically by all members of the team. We aim to be sensitive to the training needs of each registrar and gear training methods to this. Free thinkers welcome.
