Hackney GP Training practices

London Fields Medical Centre

We are one of Hackney's newer Training Practices, and as our name suggests, we are located in the South West patch, on the borders of London Fields, and in the heart of Broadway Market. The area is seeing a renaissance of activity, including the re-emergence of the market itself, and the continuing influence of resident local artists and designers.

Our practice has a reputation for friendliness and being a nice place to work in.

We have a full team including Practice Manager, two Practice Nurses ,Reception Manager,  and five part time receptionists as employed staff; we also have an attached District Nurse, attached Health Visitor, attached Midwifery Team, attached Clinical Psychologist, attached Health Advocates (Turkish/ Kurdish and Vietnamese), named Social Worker, named CPN, and named Occupational Therapist. There are four full time  Principals in the Practice. There is a great sense of the team working together for the good of the people we serve. There are regular meetings in the Practice with our attached colleagues, in addition to regular meetings with the staff employed in the Practice. Everyone is encouraged to air his or her own views and ideas.

All our practices and policies are non-discriminatory.

"Our mission is to provide excellent primary care to all our registered population."

Our building is relatively new, purpose built in the last 10 years, and in need of expansion at the moment to accommodate our growth. Plans are underway to achieve this goal in the next year. Our present list size is 6,400..

We serve a fairly deprived inner-city area, with a patient list that reflects the ethnic diversity of Hackney. Approximately 10-15% of the list is comprised of people of Turkish or Kurdish origin.

At the moment we have one trainer in the practice, Dr May Cahill. We have just successfully completed three years of Training, which has been very fulfilling, and  contributed to and enjoyed by everyone in the Practice.

London Fields is an established Teaching Practice, having been teaching undergraduates from the Medical School of Bart's and the London since 1992. We are a joint Hub Practice with The Albion Health Centre in Tower Hamlets. Students visit the Practice for teaching approximately 10 times a year. Dr Mary O'Sullivan is our lead GP Tutor.

Maintaining high standards of professionalism in our role as providers of Primary care is paramount to the ethos of London Fields. However, we also maintain a very relaxed approach, which fosters the sense of camaraderie that is apparent in London Fields.

We welcome informal visits from anyone who might be interested in training in Hackney.
