Hospital jobsAdult PsychiatryThe Psychiatric SHO posts, based at the Homerton Hospital, provide excellent experience in acute general psychiatry or the psychiatry of old age. The Homerton Hospital is a modern much-admired, purpose built unit, located on a DGH site. All SHOs are supported by a Consultant and a Specialist Registrar and partake in a 1 in 9 duty rota. There are well established GP liaison clinics throughout all the four sectors of the district, and a strong community-orientated approach to psychiatry, and the rich range of the psychopathology presenting at the unit has made it a popular training post for psychiatry trainees (there have been no failures at the MCRPsych for nearly 5 years). The clinical experience is fully supported by an active academic department, a relatively young group of Consultants, and close links with other aspects of health and social care locally. The SHOs attend a weekly outpatient clinic, working alongside the Consultant, and with medical student s attached (Friday am). He/ she also covers the Emergency clinic , for one afternoon a week, and will have the option of attending GP liaison clinics (if available) in the second half of their attachment. Additional learning experience includes a weekly journal (Monday lunchtime), the weekly academic meeting of the Department of Psychiatry (St. Bartholomew's Hospital, Thursdays, 5pm), the monthly clinical audit meeting in CPA (Care Programme Approach) and the Mental Health Act. Teaching and supervision of patients in cognitive and psychoanalytic therapy is also available.
