The hospital now

Homerton, which opnened in 1986, has approximately 500 beds and 2200 staff. The Accident and Emergency Department sees over 100.00 attendances per year (including walk-in attendees), and is supported by teams in general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, children's and neonatal services, neuro-rehabilitation and stroke medicine.

There is a Children's Emergency Assessment Unit located in the A&E Department supported by the ambulatory Paediatric service on Starlight Children’s Unit.

All obstetric services within the City of London and Hackney are centralised at Homerton. There are approximately 5,000 babies delivered per year at the hospital, and the London Borough of Hackney has an increasing birthrate. There is a specialist Fetal Medicine Unit on site.

There is a 10-bedded combined adult Intensive Care / High Dependency Unit , and a separate 4-bedded Coronary Care Unit.

The hospital also has an Academic Unit of Gastroenterology, a Stroke Unit, a specialist Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (RNRU), a range of general and specialist medicine, surgery and gynaecology, a fertility unit, and an open access service for genitourinary medicine. There is also an inpatient rehabilitation unit and Medical Day Unit.
